Sumela Monastery

Sumela Monastery, also known as the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, is an ancient Greek Orthodox monastery located in the Altindere National Park in the Macka district of Trabzon, Turkey. It was built in the 4th century and is famous for its stunning frescoes, natural setting, and historical significance.

The monastery is located on a cliff overlooking a valley and is surrounded by lush forests and natural waterfalls. It was abandoned in 1923 after the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, but it was later restored and reopened to the public in 2010.
